New Years Eve at the River

Sometimes we do get snow at the B and B but it doesn’t last very long. It is usually gone before noon.

Down By The River B and B has a tradition on New Years Eve. We celebrate the New Year with all of our guests and pop some Arizona Sparkling Wine at 12 AM. Every year we invite the guests that are staying with us and we invite some of our old neighbors and friends to attend.We celebrate the end of the old year and look forward to the next one which we always hope is better. The best part is that we don’t charge our guests any extra for the evening although there are some restrictions.

The tradition actually goes back before Barb and I started the BnB. We would have an open house with our neighbors and friends. After Barb and I had moved into the B and B, we decided to keep the tradition going. It has been over 20 years now that we have celebrated New Years Eve in this fashion. Our old friends and neighbors still make their way down to St. David every year to ring in the New Year at our southeast Arizona B&B with Angie and me. It is fun to make new memories and remember the old ones.

This year we decided to advertize the affair. and give people a chance to come join us. We have always had guests here on New Years Eve. Prior to this year, we would inform the guests when they make their reservations for that time of the year and ask them to join us. We start the festivities at 9:00 PM. There are munchies to eat and we have music on until close to midnight. At that point when we turn on the TV and watch the ball drop from Times Square. Last year we had guests in all the rooms from as many states along with our friends and neighbors. Karl brought a Yule Log for us to eat. It was mighty tasty. We had other items to taste like meat balls, shrimp, cheese and crackers and much more. We always find something enticing.

on New Years Eve while visiting Southeastern AZ. Some of our guests have come to Arizona to root on their Alma Mater at the Fiesta Bowl and have extended their vacation to visit this part of the state. They have chosen us because of our central location to all the great things that make up Cochise County. The only requirement of the guests is to bring their own drinks and be in a cheerful mood. We also require that the reservation must be for a minimum of 2 days at the normal room charge. The use of discounts, certificates or gift cards are not allowed during the stay. Reservations are first come first served and the full non refundable charge will be taken at the time of the reservation.

10 % Multi – Night Discount

10 % discount for our guests

Just a quick word about our multi-night discount that we have introduced at Down By The River B and B. The discount is for a minimum stay of 2 consecutive nights but is not valid in combination with other discounts, coupons nor during holidays or special event weekends that required 2 night minimum stay.

The rate is really good considering it is about the same as our 2006 rates. Just think you can have rates from 6 years ago when you stay 2 or more nights at the Lodging Hub of Cochise County.

Tour Southeastern Arizona During The Summer

I used to live in the Phoenix area for 28 years or so. Like many of the valley residents, we would take time to go to the Flagstaff or the Payson to escape the summer heat. We spent time in Cottonwood, Sedona and Prescott before buying property in Munds Park. We discovered how a little higher elevation reduced the heat of the day and lead to cooler nights. It also help that the concrete of the city wasn’t around to hold the heat and radiate it back at night. We didn’t really do much traveling to Southern Arizona for a simple reason. We traveled through Yuma on the way to San Diego like most Arizonans. We didn’t consider going to southeastern Arizona because of the prevailing theory that everything south of Phoenix was hotter than Phoenix. We used Yuma for the example.

Then we discovered that here in Cochise County we could find

elevations that were similar to Cottonwood and Prescott. We also found that the temperatures were similar and that there are pine forested mountains here that go over 10,000 feet elevation. Not only that, but during the summer, Cochise County gets the monsoon storms earlier than central Arizona. The area actually experiences storms that bring rain up to one or two weeks prior to reaching the metro areas. In fact, on the 16th of June this year we had a storm that dropped rain and hail for almost 30 minutes. The cool rain really felt good. While Phoenix gets the dry haboob that doesn’t reduce the 110+ degree day, St. David will get a half an inch of rain and the temperature will drop into the 80s. It is really nice and you can sit under the porch and enjoy it.

Now for the news that I want to tell you about. The Arizona Tourist News has written and article on page 3 of the summer 2012 edition.

The article give you an itinerary for a 2 day trip to see this area of Cochise County. Down By The River is mentioned in the article and we are noted on the front cover of the paper, along with many of the businesses that we tell our guests about. Actually it might be a little hard to do the tour in two days and be able to see all the things that are available in the area. The AZTN tells about the wineries, San Pedro Observatory and other locations and things to do.

Down By The River B&B is near Tombstone and is the Cochise County Lodging Hub with easy access to all of the Cochise County attractions. We are a great place for San Pedro River birding at the BnB since we are at the river and just at the north end of the San Pedro River National Conservation Area.

We thought that this would be a grand opportunity for people that haven’t been in the area come down to visit us and do the tour of Cochise County. To that end we have decided to celebrate and offer to future guests a special from now until the end of September of 2012.
